Netflix Cancels October Faction and V Wars After One Season

After scoring low reviews from critics and failing to find a place in audiences’ hearts, Netflix has chosen to axe the supernatural horror dramas October Faction and V Wars after only one season each, according to Deadline.

Based on the novel and graphic novel series of the same name from IDW Publishing, the Ian Somerhalder-led V Wars followed a doctor who enters a world of terror when a mysterious disease transforms his best friend into a vampire-like predator feeding on other humans. Society begins to split into opposing camps as the disease spreads and more people are transformed, with Somerhalder’s Dr. Luther Swann racing against time to find a cure while his best friend rises as the most powerful underground leader of the vampires.

The pilot for V Wars was directed by Brad Turner (24), who also executive produced the series alongside High Park’s Eric Birnberg and Thomas Walden, IDW Entertainment’s David Ozer and Ted Adams and Marada Pictures’ James Gibb, with William Laurin and Glenn Davis acting as showrunners.

Despite the cancellation, the streaming service and Somerhalder, who helmed an episode of the 10-episode sole season, are reportedly in talks to pursue other potential projects together.

Based on Steve Niles and Damien Worm’s comic book series of the same name, October Faction told the story of monster hunters Fred and Deloris Allen who return to their hometown in upstate New York with their teenage children after the former’s father passes. The two must hid their identities as members of a secret organization from their kids and discover that the small-town isn’t as idyllic as it looks.

The series featured Damian Kindler as showrunner, executive producer and director of two of its ten episodes. Kindler is best-known for his work as supervising producer on Stargate SG-1 and creative consultant on Stargate Atlantis, as well as creator for the Syfy series Sanctuary and Krypton, as well as co-executive producer on Fox’s Sleepy Hollow.

The home is Habitat for Humanity’s first 3D-printed home in the nation,  according to a Habitat news release. Janet V. CANTON, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio high school football player who says coaches forced him to eat a pizza covered with pepperoni grease in violation of his religious beliefs is suing his former district and the ousted coaches. The former Canton McKinley High School athlete and his parents filed a federal civil rights suit this week seeking millions of dollars in damages and alleging violations of his religious freedom and constitutional rights. The athlete says in the lawsuit that coaches were notified he doesn’t eat pork or pork residue as a member of the Hebrew Israelite religious faith, but that they ordered him to eat the pizza as punishment for missing an offseason workout — and indicated his spot on the team was at risk if he didn’t.
