Banning police investigating a homicide arrested two people Thursday, Oct. 17, Chief Matthew Hamner said.
Mark Anthony Fisher, 25, was shot to death Oct. 7 in the 1200 block of Wyte Way.
Thursday, a man was arrested on suspicion of murder, and a woman was arrested on a felony warrant. Hamner declined to identify them for the time being, saying that doing so could jeopardize the investigation.
“People are still being interviewed. Witnesses are still being contacted. There’s much more follow-up investigation to occur,” Hamner said.
Detectives gave up days off to investigate the case, the chief said. “I’m very proud of the work the detectives did,” he said.
Hamner did say that investigators are no longer seeking a man and a woman who police described as “persons of interest” in the case: Abel Edward Martinez Jr., 23, of Beaumont, and Ashley Marie Phillips, 27, of Banning.
Britney McChesney, who identified herself as Fisher’s sister, said her brother had been in a relationship with Phillips. McChesney said she didn’t know anything about Martinez.
Fisher, she said, was a good-hearted person who helped others.
“I’m glad they were caught. My brother didn’t deserve this,” McChesney said of the news that two people were arrested. “I hope they get prosecuted to the fullest.”
