LeBron James sends taco truck to feed firefighters in LA

LOS ANGELES — Firefighters and first responders battling the Getty Fire were treated to a warm meal courtesy of NBA star LeBron James, according to Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti.

“Thank you, @KingJames, for generously sending a taco truck to support our @LAFD firefighters, first responders, and partner agencies working to fight the #GettyFire,” Garcetti tweeted Tuesday along with two images showing people in uniform ordering food.

James and his family were forced to evacuate their Brentwood, California, home early Monday as the wildfire approached. Tuesday night, before the Los Angeles Lakers home game, he spoke to reporters about the tense moments fleeing his home.

“It’s just challenging at that hour, getting my family, getting my kids, getting everybody and having to evacuate at such a rapid, rapid rate. You don’t really have much time to think about what you can get or what you can do. You just got to get out and get to safety.”

The Getty Fire has charred more than 650 acres since Monday and is only 15% contained, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. Tuesday, the National Weather Service issued its first-ever extreme red flag warning — meaning winds, temperatures and humidity are ripe for fire danger.

In Northern California, firefighters are battling the Kincade fire, the state’s largest active wildfire. First responders and evacuees in Sonoma County have been receiving hot meals courtesy of chef José Andrés’ non-profit World Central Kitchen, along with chefs Tyler Florence and Guy Fieri. On the menu for Tuesday, the organization tweeted that chef Chris Cosentino has been roasting up some local pumpkins.

“They’ll be used in our roasted pork loin with potatoes & apples, sage onion gravy, and brussels sprouts served with cauliflower & yams. The vegan option is pumpkin and sweet potato curry with rice!”

The home is Habitat for Humanity’s first 3D-printed home in the nation,  according to a Habitat news release. Janet V. Lawsuit: High school football player says coaches forced him to eat pizza as punishment, violating religious beliefs

CANTON, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio high school football player who says coaches forced him to eat a pizza covered with pepperoni grease in violation of his religious beliefs is suing his former district and the ousted coaches. The former Canton McKinley High School athlete and his parents filed a federal civil rights suit this week seeking millions of dollars in damages and alleging violations of his religious freedom and constitutional rights. The athlete says in the lawsuit that coaches were notified he doesn’t eat pork or pork residue as a member of the Hebrew Israelite religious faith, but that they ordered him to eat the pizza as punishment for missing an offseason workout — and indicated his spot on the team was at risk if he didn’t.
