Icy spots, major wind ahead for Monday after wintry mess exits

The rest of your Sunday night we will start to dry out, but we have two threats that will follow! Everything will ice up tonight, and we are expecting a windstorm as we head into Monday.

The wintry messy precipitation will end by 10/11 p.m. tonight.

Temperatures will stay above freezing through about 11 p.m. tonight, but after that we dip below freezing. In fact, overnight into tomorrow morning we’ll get down to the upper teens and low 20s. That means whether you saw the snow, ice or rain or a little bit of everything Sunday, it will all freeze up. Any untreated surfaces will be incredibly slick.

Afternoon highs Monday will not make it out of the 20s, so nothing will be melting all day long. Skies will be partly to mostly sunny, but get ready for some major wind. Most of us outside of southeastern Massachusetts are under a high wind warning for gusts up to 65 mph. In southeastern Massachusetts, there’s a wind advisory for gusts up to 55 mph. With some ice on the power lines, the wind will only work to exacerbate the power outage risk. Keep your electronics charged up.

Losing power when temperatures are that cold could be dangerous considering how many people don’t have a back-up way to heat their home without it. Wind chills will get down to the single digits, and they’ll stay there all day long.

Tuesday will be partly cloudy and dry, but it’ll still be cold and breezy. Gusts won’t be quite as high as they are expected to be Monday, but they’ll still reach 30-40 mph.

With temperatures in the teens to 20s, it’ll feel much colder with the wind again.

Wednesday will be cold from the single digits to the 20s with dry skies but thankfully less wind. While Thursday previously looked like it could be our next storm day, the forecast model trends have been showing the storm passing farther to the south and east, bringing down our snow totals and snow chances, too. So that one we will have to watch.

Friday through Sunday we’ll be quiet and back to the 30s again.

The home is Habitat for Humanity’s first 3D-printed home in the nation,  according to a Habitat news release. Janet V. Green, CEO of Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg, told CNN it partnered with Alquist, a 3D printing company, earlier this year to begin the process. The 1,200-square-foot home has three bedrooms, two full baths and was built from concrete. The technology allowed the home to be built in just 12 hours, which saves about four weeks of construction time for a typical home. April Stringfield purchased the home through the  Habitat Homebuyer Program . Lawsuit: High school football player says coaches forced him to eat pizza as punishment, violating religious beliefs

CANTON, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio high school football player who says coaches forced him to eat a pizza covered with pepperoni grease in violation of his religious beliefs is suing his former district and the ousted coaches. The former Canton McKinley High School athlete and his parents filed a federal civil rights suit this week seeking millions of dollars in damages and alleging violations of his religious freedom and constitutional rights. The athlete says in the lawsuit that coaches were notified he doesn’t eat pork or pork residue as a member of the Hebrew Israelite religious faith, but that they ordered him to eat the pizza as punishment for missing an offseason workout — and indicated his spot on the team was at risk if he didn’t. The coaches say the player chose to remove pepperoni and eat the pizza rather than an alternative food. Bergeron, Pastrnak and Bruins finish off Capitals in 5 games

WASHINGTON (AP) — Patrice Bergeron and David Pastrnak dazzled on offense, Tuukka Rask was rock solid in net and the Boston Bruins are moving on to the second round of the playoffs. Bergeron scored twice at crucial times after Pastrnak’s  highlight-reel  goal, Rask made 40 saves and the Bruins eliminated the Washington Capitals in five games with a 3-1 victory Sunday night. Bergeron delivered the dagger with 7:35 left to set up a second-round showdown against either the Pittsburgh Penguins or New York Islanders. Chants of “TUUKK!” emanated from a large group of black and gold-clad Boston fans who were part of the limited-capacity sellout crowd of 5,333.
