In addition to the zip ties, the suspect also had duct tape on him, according to a law enforcement source. David DePape, 42, faces charges of attempted homicide, assault with a deadly weapon, elder abuse, burglary and other felonies in relation to the Friday morning attack, said San Francisco Police Chief William Scott. The hammer that was used to assault Paul Pelosi was brought by DePape, according to a law enforcement source and a senior congressional aide briefed on the assault. (CNN) — At least 60 people were killed in  India  Sunday when a bridge collapsed in the western state of Gujarat, causing hundreds of people to fall into the water, officials said. The bridge in the town of Morbi had been recently renovated and the government would investigate how and why the incident occurred, said the Minister of State in the Ministry of Labour and Employment of Gujrat, Brijesh Merja. The current focus was on search and rescue operations, he added. Speaking to NDTV in an on-camera interview from the site of the tragedy, he said at least 17 people were being treated in the hospital. Children were among those killed, MP Mohanbhai Kalyanji Kundariya told NDTV. (CNN) — The US Coast Guard, with an assist from good Samaritans, rescued 13 people from a sinking fishing boat after it collided with a container ship about 60 miles off the coast of Virginia on Friday. The Coast Guard received a mayday call around 2 a.m. from crew members aboard the commercial fishing vessel who said their 115-foot boat, Tremont, was sinking after colliding with   the 1,000-foot Panamanian-flagged container vessel MSC Rita, the US. Coast Guard Air District 5  said in a press release . Two good Samaritan vessels — Atlantis and Drystan — also helped assist with the rescue, according to the Coast Guard. Chief Keith Boone said Easton Police responded to a 911 call at 11:41 p.m. Friday on Central Street, where they said they found a man holding a knife. Boone said police drew their “service weapons,” with one firing the weapon, striking the man and “grazing” another resident. Officers rendered aid until paramedics arrived and transported the man and the resident to local hospitals, according to police. The man remains in the hospital and the resident was released after treatment for their injury. The man is being held in custody pending arraignment, police said, and the officer is on paid leave as the shooting is investigated. A hit-and-run crash injured a pedestrian Saturday morning, Methuen Police said. Chief Scott J. McNamara said police responded to a report of an injured pedestrian near Blake Street at 1:17 a.m., discovering a 65-year-old Lawrence man, injured, under a parked vehicle. Police and paramedics provided medical care until the victim was transported by ambulance to receive treatment at an area hospital, McNamara said. Investigation by police, including review of security footage, determined the vehicle involved was a black Ford Escape missing a left rearview mirror. The driver had stopped the vehicle, checked for damage, and driven away, police said. Police found the alleged involved vehicle on Margin Street in Lawrence, and have identified a suspect. (CNN) — Next week, job seekers will   start   to get a much better grasp on what many employers are willing to pay — and so will a company’s existing employees. While there is already a patchwork of state and local laws aimed at improving pay transparency, many companies still do not advertise what they pay up front. But two new laws that will soon take effect may have the biggest impact   yet   on employers and job seekers across the country. On November 1, New York City will require employers that have four or more people on the payroll — with at least one of them working in the city — to provide a “good faith” pay range listing the minimum and maximum base salary or hourly wage in all job advertisements. Then come January 1, 2023, a similar law goes into effect in California for employers with at least 15 employees. The first one occurred on Feb. 10, when a 35-year-old Cambridge woman reported that she was approached from behind in the Mason Street and Phillips Place near Harvard Square shortly after 9 a.m. and a suspect reportedly put their hand on her buttocks then her groin. The suspect then ran to Brattle Square. On April 13, a 47-year-old Somerville woman was physically and sexually assaulted near the Porter Exchange Shopping Center on Mass. Ave at around 8:40 a.m. The woman said she was walking down Roseland Street toward Mass. Ave when she felt someone quickly approach her. A Boston man was charged with exposing himself and committing lewd acts in front of two 16-year-old girls walking back to their East Boston school after lunch, according to Suffolk County DA Kevin Hayden. At about 2:30 p.m. on Oct. 5, Boston Police responded to an East Boston school, where the girls told officers they were walking back to school after lunch when they saw a man expose his penis. They then saw him insert his penis into the opening of a pipe. The girls quickly walked away, but the man followed them with his penis still exposed. The girls were able to take a cell phone photo of the man. Two cars parked in a driveway were rammed by a rolling dump truck in Reading at around 7:30 Thursday morning, which also damaged the family’s stone wall. Video taken by the family shows crews working to remove the truck from the property, which the family said rolled down the hilly Selfridge Road from a nearby construction site. They added that the truck was in neutral when it rolled down the road, and that no one was behind the wheel. A red van parked in the driveway was totally smashed in the back. The other car hit, a gray SUV, saw less damage, but was somehow lifted up the stone wall. The family was inside their home when the incident happened.
