A news conference between Zelenskyy and Trump’s Ukraine envoy is canceled amid growing tensions

This content collected from Boston News, Weather, Sports | WHDH 7News. KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — A news conference that was planned to follow talks between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and U.S. President Donald Trump’s Ukraine envoy was canceled Thursday as political tensions deepened between the two countries over how to end  the almost three-year war with Russia . The event was originally supposed to include comments to the media by Zelenskyy and retired U.S. Lt. Gen.  Keith Kellogg , but it was changed at the last minute to a simple photo opportunity where the two posed for journalists. They did not deliver statements or field questions as expected. The change was requested by the U.S. side, Ukrainian presidential spokesman Serhii Nikiforov said. Kellogg’s trip to Kyiv coincided with recent feuding between Trump and Zelenskyy that has bruised their personal relations and cast further doubt on the future of U.S. support for Ukraine’s war effort. 2 people are dead after a small plane collision in southern Arizona, authorities say

MARANA, Ariz. (AP) — A midair collision involving two small planes in southern Arizona killed at least two people Wednesday morning, authorities said. The National Transportation Safety Board said it is investigating the collision that happened near Marana Regional Airport on the outskirts of Tucson. The Marana Police Department confirmed two deaths after responding to the crash. The Federal Aviation Administration says two people were aboard each plane involved in the collision. The Associated Press left a message with a Marana police spokesperson seeking additional details. Last week in Arizona, one of two pilots died on a private jet owned by Mötley Crüe singer Vince Neil after the aircraft  veered off a runway in  Scottsdale and hit a business jet. Four major aviation disasters have occurred in North American in the last month. The most recent involved  a Delta jet that flipped on its roof  while landing in Toronto and the deadly crash of a commuter plane in...

Protesters rally at White Stadium against renovation of Franklin Park

This content collected from Boston News, Weather, Sports | WHDH 7News. Protesters gathered at White Stadium Wednesday to rally against the renovation of Franklin Park in Boston. Demolition crews started tearing down the stadium earlier this month to make way for a new facility, which will be used by a professional women’s soccer team and Boston Public Schools . Taxpayers are expected to front half the cost of the $200 million project. “This is all a capitalist venture to make huge amounts of money to steal our park. Our park is not for sale,” said protester Steve Kirschbaum, of Boston. The group protesting Wednesday said they have an alternative plan — to renovate White Stadium as only a facility for Boston Public Schools, at a much lower cost to taxpayers and the environment. Speakers remarked how, last month, half of the Boston City Council called for an immediate pause on White Stadium demolition and construction until the city releases a fully public renovation option and sol...

The IRS, which contains private data on millions of Americans’ tax returns, Social Security numbers and banking information, is the latest agency to be targeted by DOGE as it seeks to significantly reduce the size of the federal workforce and root out what it characterizes as waste, fraud and abuse within the government. Gavin Kliger, a software engineer working under DOGE, is expected to be granted access to the system “imminently,” the source said. He will be based at the IRS for at least 120 days but had not yet been given approval as of 9 p.m. ET Sunday. “Waste, fraud, and abuse have been deeply entrenched in our broken system for far too long. Mexico threatens to sue Google over name change of Gulf of Mexico on US maps

This content collected from Boston News, Weather, Sports | WHDH 7News. (CNN) —  Mexico will take Google  to court if  maps shown to US-based users continue to label the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America across the entire body of water, President Claudia Sheinbaum said Monday, arguing that US President Donald Trump’s order to rename it only applies to the part of the continental shelf under US control. “What Google is doing here is changing the name of the continental shelf of Mexico and Cuba, which has nothing to do with Trump’s decree, which applied only to the US continental shelf,” Sheinbaum told reporters. “We do not agree with this, and the Foreign Minister has sent a new letter addressing the issue.” Sheinbaum said the renaming is “incorrect,” adding that Trump’s decree “only changed the name within his own continental shelf, which extends 22 nautical miles from the US coast—not the entire Gulf.” Last week , Google renamed the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of A...

Alex Bregman joins team of his former favorite player and looks to get Red Sox back to postseason

FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) — Alex Bregman couldn’t hold back the smile when he was asked who might have had the biggest impact on his decision to sign with the Boston Red Sox. “My favorite player Dustin Pedroia,” Bregman said of the club’s former second baseman and two-time World Series champion. “He reached out a few times this offseason and talked about how special it was to be a part of the Boston Red Sox,” Bregman said Sunday. “It was really cool to be able to talk to him as well as so many other former players here in Boston and current players on the team as well.” A day after Bregman’s $120 million, three-year contract was announced, he sat at a 25-minute news conference between his agent, Scott Boras, and Boston Chief Baseball Officer Craig Breslow. Manager Alex Cora, who gave Bregman a hug after he handed the infielder his No. 2 jersey, also was at the table along with team president Sam Kennedy. Breslow and Cora wouldn’t say whether Bregman would move to play second base, Pedr...

Icy spots, major wind ahead for Monday after wintry mess exits

The rest of your Sunday night we will start to dry out, but we have two threats that will follow! Everything will ice up tonight, and we are expecting a windstorm as we head into Monday. The wintry messy precipitation will end by 10/11 p.m. tonight. Temperatures will stay above freezing through about 11 p.m. tonight, but after that we dip below freezing. In fact, overnight into tomorrow morning we’ll get down to the upper teens and low 20s. That means whether you saw the snow, ice or rain or a little bit of everything Sunday, it will all freeze up. Any untreated surfaces will be incredibly slick. Afternoon highs Monday will not make it out of the 20s, so nothing will be melting all day long. Skies will be partly to mostly sunny, but get ready for some major wind. Most of us outside of southeastern Massachusetts are under a high wind warning for gusts up to 65 mph. In southeastern Massachusetts, there’s a wind advisory for gusts up to 55 mph. With some ice on the power lines, the w...

Snow, ice and rain storm Sunday transitions to major wind for Monday

Get ready for an extremely busy next few days across Massachusetts! From snow tonight, to snow, ice and rain depending on where you are Sunday, to a windstorm Monday…we are in the middle of a very active weather pattern once again. It’s already snowing out there, and the snow will continue to become more widespread and heavier overnight. Around midnight, it’ll still be plain snow for most. However, as a warm front advances overnight into Sunday morning, we are expecting changing precipitation types from the south to the north. Before the precipitation changeover, most of us will see 3-6″ of snow with lesser amounts near the Cape and islands. The Cape and islands will changeover to a mix first but by early Sunday morning should be just plain rain that’ll begin to wash away snow quickly. The wintry mix, sleet and freezing rain will linger the longest on Sunday for central and northern Massachusetts, southern Vermont and southern New Hampshire. By 10 a.m., there won’t be much snow...

Snow supplies flying off store shelves ahead of another round of weekend winter weather

A bitter blast of snow and ice is headed to Massachusetts this weekend, which will then flip to sleet and freezing rain. The snow is predicted to start falling Saturday night, before the sleet and freezing rain kicks in early Sunday morning. In Greater Boston, about 3 to 4 inches of snow is expected. Anyone on the roads Sunday should be prepared for some slick and icy conditions. North Andover is just one of the communities gearing up for another winter storm. In addition to rushing to the store to buy flowers and chocolates for Valentine’s Day, many locals were grabbing ice scrapers and rock salt off the shelves. “We haven’t had as much snow — it’s the kind of snow we’ve had this year. Because, I’ve been here, when you get 2 feet of snow and it’s a lot easier to handle than this stuff,” said Margie Bicking, who was at a local store preparing for the storm. Rocky’s Ace Hardware was teeming with customers Friday, buying all the snow essentials. “We get pallets today and they go ri...

Trump signs a plan for reciprocal tariffs on US trading partners, ushering in economic uncertainty

WASHINGTON (AP) — President  Donald Trump  on Thursday rolled out his plan to increase U.S. tariffs to match the tax rates that other countries charge on imports, possibly triggering a broader economic confrontation with allies and rivals alike as he hopes to eliminate any trade imbalances. “I’ve decided for purposes of fairness that I will charge a reciprocal tariff,” Trump said in the Oval Office at the proclamation signing. “It’s fair to all. No other country can complain.” Trump’s Republican administration has insisted that its  new tariffs  would level the playing field between U.S. manufacturers and foreign competitors, though under current law these new taxes would likely be paid by American consumers and businesses either directly or in the form of higher prices. The politics of tariffs could easily backfire on Trump if his agenda  pushes up inflation  and grinds down growth, making this a high stakes wager for a president eager to declare his au...

Worcester City Council votes to declare the city a sanctuary for transgender people

The Worcester City Council voted Tuesday to declare the city a sanctuary for people who are transgender. The council voted 9 to 2 in favor, with the resolution coming after more than three hours of public testimony from members of the LGBTQ community and their allies. Those who spoke called on the city to be more welcoming of gender-diverse people. “I need the city to protect me because no one else will, and I need the city to protect me because the federal government won’t, and if you think you’re afraid of Trump, you should see how afraid of Trump I am,” one speaker said. “We are so proud. We are proud to be a city that prioritizes its citizens over bigotry and hate. It is worth the risk,” another speaker said. Steve Bannon pleads guilty and avoids jail time in border wall fraud case

NEW YORK (AP) — Steve Bannon pleaded guilty on Tuesday to a fraud charge related to duping donors who gave money to  a private effort to build a wall  along the U.S. southern border — a case the conservative strategist has decried as a “political persecution.” Bannon, a longtime ally of President  Donald Trump , pleaded guilty to one scheme to defraud count as part of a plea agreement that spares him from jail time in the “We Build the Wall” scheme. He received a three-year conditional discharge, which requires that he stay out of trouble to avoid additional punishment. Asked how he was feeling as he left the courtroom, Bannon said, “Like a million bucks.” Bannon spoke to reporters afterward and called on U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi to begin an immediate criminal investigation into New York Attorney General Letitia James and Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. Defense attorney Arthur Aidala called the case against Bannon flimsy, saying it was never about his ...
