Japan’s iconic Mount Fuji has yet to see snow this season, breaking a 130-year record

(CNN) —  November is just a few days away, but Japan’s iconic Mount Fuji remains snowless, marking the latest date without a snowcap since records began 130 years ago. The peaks of Japan’s highest mountain are usually dusted in snow by early October, but as of Tuesday the summit has remained bare – raising the alarm of the impacts of the climate crisis on one of the country’s most beloved landmarks. The first snowfall signals the arrival of winter. It follows  the summer climbing season , which this year ended on September 10. Snowcaps begin to form on average on Fuji on October 2, and last year, it was recorded on October 5, according to Japan’s weather agency – though public broadcaster NHK reported that most of it melted away in early November due to warm temperatures. Japan’s Kofu Local Meteorological Office, which has announced the first snowfall on Fuji each year since it was established in 1894, has yet to do so this year, citing unseasonably warm weather. “Because of the f

Foreign threats to the US election are on the rise, and officials are moving faster to expose them

This content collected from Boston News, Weather, Sports | WHDH 7News. WASHINGTON (AP) — A presidential candidate’s  phone is hacked . A fake  video falsely shows ballots burned  in Pennsylvania. National security officials warn that U.S. adversaries may incite violent protests after Election Day. These developments  — all revealed in the past week — show how Russia, China and Iran have increased the pace of efforts to meddle in American politics ahead of next month’s election, just as intelligence officials and security analysts  had predicted . At the same time, officials,  tech companies  and private researchers have adopted a more aggressive defense by swiftly exposing foreign election threats,  highlighting the lessons learned  from past election cycles that revealed America’s vulnerability to disinformation and cyberespionage. Officials say  the U.S. election system is so secure  that no foreign nation could alter the results at a scale necessary to change the outcome. Nevert

Trump denigrates Detroit while appealing for votes in a suburb of Michigan’s largest city

This content collected from Boston News, Weather, Sports | WHDH 7News. NOVI, Mich. (AP) —  Donald Trump  further  denigrated Detroit  while appealing for votes Saturday in a suburb of the largest city in  swing state Michigan . “I think Detroit and some of our areas makes us a developing nation,” the former president told supporters in Novi. He said people want him to say Detroit is “great,” but he thinks it “needs help.” The Republican nominee for the White House had told an economic group in Detroit earlier this month that the “whole country will end up being like Detroit” if Democrat Kamala Harris wins the presidency. That comment drew harsh criticism from Democrats who praised the city for its recent  drop in crime  and  growing population . Trump’s stop in Novi, after an  event Friday night in Traverse City , is a sign of Michigan’s importance in the tight race. At least 75 sickened as deadly McDonald’s E. coli outbreak expands

A  deadly outbreak of E. coli poisoning  tied to McDonald’s Quarter Pounders has expanded, with at least 75 people sick in 13 states, federal health officials said Friday. Twenty-two people have been hospitalized, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said. Two people developed a dangerous kidney disease complication, and one person died. No source of the outbreak has been identified, officials with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said. But investigators have focused on slivered onions used on the burgers, as well as beef patties. McDonald’s officials have said that a California-based produce grower,  Taylor Farms, supplied yellow onions  that have been recalled for possible E. coli contamination. McDonald’s pulled the burger from menus in several states on Tuesday when the outbreak was announced. ___ The Associated Press Health and Science Department receives support from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute’s Science and Educational Media Group. Hezbollah official Hashem Safieddine killed in Israeli airstrike

BEIRUT (AP) — Hashem Safieddine, a strongman who rose through the ranks of the Iran-backed  Lebanese militant group Hezbollah  over decades to become the second-most powerful person within the organization, has died. Safieddine, who was about 60, was killed in early October in a series of Israeli airstrikes in a southern suburb of Beirut that shook much of the Lebanese capital, part of Israel’s campaign against Hezbollah. Israel said Tuesday that Safieddine had been killed in the strikes; Hezbollah confirmed the death Wednesday. Safieddine’s death came as he was widely expected to be elected the group’s next leader after the  death of Hassan Nasrallah , one of its founders. Safieddine, Nasrallah’s maternal cousin, had spent years preparing for the position — but the announcement was slow in coming following the Sept. 27 airstrike in the Beirut suburbs that killed Nasrallah, part of a  series of blows  dealt by Israel that had left Hezbollah in disarray. Ballot Question 4: Could certain psychedelic drugs become legal in Massachusetts?

Could certain psychedelic drugs become legal in Massachusetts? Voters will decide in November.
