Oft-injured left-hander Chris Sale is traded to Braves from Red Sox for infielder Vaughn Grissom

ATLANTA (AP) — Chris Sale’s injury-filled career with the Red Sox ended Saturday when the 34-year-old left-hander accepted a trade to the Atlanta Braves that sent infielder Vaughn Grissom to Boston. Boston also is giving cash to the Braves, covering a portion of the $27.5 million salary the seven-time All-Star is owed in 2024, the final guaranteed season of a $160 million, six-year contract. That 2024 salary includes $10 million deferred until June 30, 2039. Sale was acquired by Boston from the Chicago White Sox in December 2016 and has made nine trips to the disabled and injured lists with the Red Sox, mostly due to shoulder and elbow ailments. He had  Tommy John surgery  on March 30, 2020, and returned to a big league mound on Aug. 14, 2021. He was 6-5 with a 4.30 ERA in 20 starts and 102 2/3 innings last season. “The last few years he’s obviously had some IL time,” Braves general manager Alex Anthopoulos said. “You can’t run from that. You realize that. But we feel like this is

Finally Clearing Out

This content collected from Boston News, Weather, Sports | WHDH 7News. The last few days have been all about the clouds, drizzle, fog, and showers. In the short term (as in tonight into tomorrow morning) that will continue to be the case. If you are heading out tonight, expect more clouds, drizzle, and fog, much like we had today. A rogue light shower is possible, but what’s out there is hardly umbrella worthy now and it will stay that way tonight. With the clouds locked overhead, temperatures won’t drop very far, falling to the upper 30s and near 40° overnight. Tomorrow is our improvement day. That improvement won’t happen until late in the day so when you wake up on Saturday morning, expect more low clouds with some drizzle, and that rogue light shower. It’ll stay that way until about noon, when we finally will punch some drier air in. It’s a slow process, so first we’ll get rid of the drizzle, then the clouds. Any hope of the clouds thinning out and showing a few peeks of sun wil

Harvard faces Friday deadline to respond to House on plagiarism scandal

New York (CNN) —  Harvard is due to respond by Friday to a demand from lawmakers for wide-ranging documents linked to the plagiarism controversy swirling around embattled President Claudine Gay. The university’s expected  response to the House Education and Workforce Committee  could provide new details on the allegations and on how Harvard officials have responded. Rep. Virginia Foxx, the Republican chair of the committee,  wrote a letter  on December 20 to Penny Pritzker, the senior fellow of the powerful Harvard Corporation, the university’s top governing board, demanding information on Harvard’s response to “credible allegations of plagiarism” by Gay over a 24-year period. Foxx’s letter requested a “written response” by December 29 to produce a series of documents such as “all documents and communications concerning the initial allegations of plagiarism and the ‘independent review’” of Gay’s scholarship, including “all meeting minutes, transcripts, notes, coordinating communicat

Boston police look to ID people of interest sought after Christmas Day stabbing on Tremont Street

Police in Boston say they are looking to identify two individuals as authorities continue investigating a Christmas Day stabbing in the city’s Theater District . The Boston Police Department released two images of the people of interest, describing them as white males with medium builds who were being sought in connection with a “stabbing incident” that happened in the area of 279 Tremont St. The images were released days after officers were originally called to the address for reports of a fight breaking out at the Royale nightclub early Christmas morning. It is believed that a worker at Royale, possibly a bouncer, was stabbed, while another person was injured. Authorities said both victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries, and that the incident did not appear to be connected to another stabbing that happened around the same time outside of a restaurant in Government Center, which left a victim with multiple stab wounds. East Cambridge Overflow Site Hosting 25 Families

Days after the Healey administration opened a new safety-net shelter in Cambridge, city and state officials will hold a community meeting as residents look for answers about the influx of migrants and homeless families seeking assistance in their neighborhood. About 25 families have been directed to the Middlesex South Registry of Deeds building, a former courthouse in East Cambridge, since the shelter opened on Friday, Rep. Mike Connolly said Tuesday. The overflow shelter site can accommodate about 70 families and is expected to be open through the winter. The Cambridge Democrat said he’s fielded questions from residents about the lack of public input so far. In a  blog post  over the weekend, he acknowledged administration officials explored the site “confidentially” as they looked to meet their “legal mandate to provide shelter to the most vulnerable in our Commonwealth.” A virtual community meeting is now slated for Thursday evening with state and Cambridge officials,  Connolly s

It was at that point that a Norwood police officer fired a single shot at the woman, sending her to the ground with a wound to her midsection. Two-Year Emergency Shelter Tab May Approach $2 Billion

This content collected from Boston News, Weather, Sports | WHDH 7News. Emergency shelter costs will approach $1 billion annually this fiscal year and next fiscal year, according to the Healey administration, which plans to drain a $700 million state escrow account to cover a portion of the unanticipated expenses. The Legislature and Gov. Maura Healey in July appropriated just $325 million for emergency shelters in the fiscal 2024 budget, an amount that is not coming close to the funding needed to house homeless families from Massachusetts and new arrivals from other countries. A new  report  from the Healey administration offers the fullest look to date at the costs of a crisis that caused Healey to declare a state of emergency in August.  The surging costs are rolling in just as state tax revenue growth is slowing and creating budgeting storm clouds. Beacon Hill Democrats are just coming off a heated debate over steering $250 million more into the shelter system, and the new repor
