(CNN) —  The landlord accused of fatally stabbing a 6-year-old Palestinian American boy near Chicago over two weeks ago pleaded not guilty to murder and hate crime charges in an Illinois court Monday. On October 14,  Wadea Al-Fayoume   was stabbed 26 times  at his home in Plainfield Township, Illinois, by his family’s landlord, the Will County Sheriff’s Office said. His mother, Hanaan Shahin, 32, also suffered more than a dozen stab wounds but survived, authorities said. The landlord, Joseph M. Czuba, 71, did not make a statement to detectives, but investigators determined the victims were “targeted by the suspect due to them being Muslim and the ongoing Middle Eastern conflict involving  Hamas and the Israelis ,” the sheriff’s office said. New York (CNN) —  A Dunkin’ franchisee is paying a woman $3 million to settle a  lawsuit  involving hot coffee falling on her lap that she alleges caused severe burns and life-altering injuries, according to her lawyers. The unnamed woman claimed the incident, which happened in February 2021 at an Atlanta-area location, occurred because the cup’s lid was not secured. According to the woman’s attorney, the lid came off the cup after she was given the drink and the hot coffee spilled on her lap causing second- and third-degree burns to her thighs, groin and abdomen. She also required “extensive” skin grafts, a statement said. (CNN) —  At least 30 US military personnel sustained minor injuries from  drone and rocket attacks  on coalition military bases in Iraq and Syria on October 18, defense officials told CNN on Wednesday. One of the officials said that four personnel sustained minor injuries from an attack on al-Asad airbase in Iraq on October 18, and an additional 20 personnel suffered minor injuries from an attack that same day on the US garrison in al-Tanf, Syria. It is not clear where the other injuries occurred. CNN previously reported that were some minor injuries in the incidents but not how many. The officials said that all of the personnel have since returned to duty, but that several continue to be monitored for any additional side effects or injuries. The number of injured has risen as more US troops have reported symptoms in the days following the attacks. NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Crews worked into Tuesday morning clearing the wreckage of more than 150 vehicles involved in a series of crashes the day before on Interstate 55 near New Orleans caused by a “superfog” of marsh fire smoke and dense fog that  killed at least seven people and injured another 25 . Hazardous driving conditions Tuesday morning prompted several schools in the area to close or delay, as tow trucks continued to haul debris off of the interstate. (CNN) —  Jeremy Renner has physically recovered from the near-fatal accident he suffered last January, but the experience has stayed with him. The “Avengers” star was  crushed  near his Nevada home while  trying  to stop his snow-removal tractor from sliding and hitting his nephew. He broke several bones including eight ribs, an eye socket, a knee and a shoulder. Renner recently spoke with CNN about his recovery from the accident and how his life has changed in the past nine months. “I just feel very blessed and very lucky to be upright and walk around and to live life,” Renner said. “I’m very, very clear. The motive wasn’t known. Emergency medical personnel declared the woman, identified in a statement from Mayor Mike Duggan as Samantha Woll, dead at the scene, Cpl. Dan Donakowski said. “While at the scene, police officers observed a trail of blood leading officers to the victim’s residence, which is where the crime is believed to have occurred,” Donakowski said. The Boston police are seeking the public’s help to identify an individual who was seen leaving Nubian station in Roxbury and vandalizing multiple vehicles toward the Grove Hall Branch of the Boston Public Library early Saturday morning, police said. Officials said the individual was seen at the bus stop, formerly Dudley Station, around 2:39 a.m. and broke into vehicles up Warren Street, through the Stop and Shop parking lot and on to Stanwood Street. The individual was last seen fleeing down Normandy Street from the area of the library around 3:30 a.m. Police say the individual appears to be a Black male, wearing his hair in a bun, a gray sweatshirt, jeans with multiple holes. Authorities in Yarmouth say four people were injured after a pickup truck driver appeared to go off road and crash into several vehicles and a business Friday morning. The Yarmouth Police Department said both officers and firefighters were called to the TD Bank off Route 28 where a truck was found embedded in the side of the building around 11:30 a.m. Investigators found the crash appeared to happen after the truck left the roadway and “became airborne after hitting a median,” striking a sign in the process which, in turn, hit and injured a bystander. Two parked cars were also struck as the truck barreled in the direction of the bank and eventually plowed into a brick wall. All four people injured, including the driver, suffered what were described as minor injuries. Why the truck initially left the road and the crash itself remains under investigation. The Fall River Police Department said the arrests came after officers were initially called to a CVS pharmacy on President Avenue around 3:10 p.m. on Wednesday. The woman told police she left the nightclub early Saturday and got into the car, believing it to be an Uber she had requested for the ride home. But after she got in, the driver drove behind some buildings, put a T-shirt over the rear window and then raped her, police said in a report. “This is a terrifying incident involving a woman who entered a vehicle with the full understanding that she was going to be delivered home in safety and a driver who took advantage of the victim and the situation,” Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden said in a news release Wednesday.
