Part of Morse Street in Norwood will be closed to all traffic through the end of the weekend after a cement truck hit a bridge in the area Thursday, Norwood’s police chief announced. The crash happened at the Morse Street Bridge on Thursday afternoon. Norwood police soon said the bridge “sustained possible structural damage” and said Morse Street would be closed between Pleasant Street and Short Street “for the foreseeable future.”  In a later post on X , formerly known as Twitter, Norwood Police Chief William Brooks said the driver of the truck was OK and would be cited.  A day after the crash, Brooks shared a photo of the scene on Morse Street, with “Road Closed” signs in place and police officers stationed on either side of the Morse Street Bridge.  While Morse Street will remain closed for the time being, Brooks said individuals can still access all shops and companies in the area.  from Boston News, Weather, Sports | WHDH 7News Source: https://ift.tt/Mf187rk

Aerosmith has postponed the rest of its farewell tour after learning a vocal injury for frontman Steven Tyler is “more serious than initially thought.”  The band announced the postponed shows on Friday morning, saying all currently scheduled shows on the PEACE OUT tour will now be pushed to 2024. The band said specific new show dates will be announced “as soon as we know more.” Aerosmith already postponed a series of concert dates earlier this month after the band said Tyler injured his vocal cords during a performance.  In their update on Friday, Aerosmith said a doctor confirmed Tyler also fractured his larynx in addition to damaging his vocal cords. (AP) — A Tennessee judge said Friday she is ending a  conservatorship agreement  between former NFL player Michael Oher and a Memphis couple who took him in when he was in high school, but the highly-publicized dispute over financial issues will continue. Shelby County Probate Court Judge Kathleen Gomes said she is terminating the agreement reached in 2004 that allowed Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy to control Oher’s finances. Oher signed the agreement when he was 18 and living with the couple as he was being recruited by colleges as a star high school football player. Their story is the subject of the film “The Blind Side, which earned  Sandra Bullock an Oscar . Gomes said she was not dismissing the case. Using the first-ever supercomputer climate models of the distant future, scientists from the University of Bristol in the United Kingdom predicted how climate extremes would intensify after the world’s continents merge to form one supercontinent, Pangea Ultima, in around 250 million years. They found it would be extremely hot, dry and virtually uninhabitable for humans and mammals, who are not evolved to cope with prolonged exposure to excessive heat. Researchers simulated temperature, wind, rain and humidity trends for the supercontinent and used models of tectonic plate movement, ocean chemistry and biology to calculate carbon dioxide levels. (AP) — The remains of a 78-year-old man with dementia who left his home to go for a walk in 1991 and never returned have been identified after New Hampshire authorities used modern DNA testing technology, the state attorney general’s office said Thursday. Benjamin Adams left his home in Canaan that June. After search efforts were unsuccessful, he was listed as a missing person. In November 1996, a hunter discovered some skeletal remains in the woods in Hanover, nearly 20 miles (32 kilometers) away. Additional bones were discovered after the area was searched. Due to the vicinity of Adams’ last known location, investigators suspected the remains might be his, the attorney general’s office said in a news release. An out-of-state forensic anthropologist examined the remains in 1997. The House approved of the package  155-1 on Wednesday  and kept its informal session open Thursday so that it could take its final enactment vote, ensuring that the bill could reach the governor’s desk by the afternoon. Some events will now be held on Saturday instead of Sunday, the Carter library said. (CNN) —  A fire tore through a wedding hall in Qaraqosh in northern Iraq on Tuesday, killing at least 100 people and injuring 150 others, prompting anger at the lack of safety measures at the venue. Fireworks were set off at the venue in the Hamdaniya district of northeast Nineveh governorate, the Iraqi Civil Defense said, and an investigative committee was formed to identify the cause of the incident. “The hall did not meet safety criteria. Because of the fireworks the ceiling collapsed on the people in the hall,” Interior Minister Abdul Amir al-Shammari told reporters on Wednesday. “Justice will be served to those who were negligent,” Al-Shammari added. Bob Menendez  of New Jersey pleaded not guilty on Wednesday to federal charges accusing him of pocketing bribes of cash and gold bars in exchange for wielding his political influence to secretly advance Egyptian interests and do favors for local businessmen. Menendez led his wife, who also pleaded not guilty in the case, by the hand out of the courtroom after the brief hearing in the lower Manhattan federal courthouse days after prosecutors unsealed  an indictment alleging vast corruption  by the Democrat. Menendez spoke in court only when each defendant stood to acknowledge that they understood the charges against them. A lawyer entered the not guilty plea for Menendez, who was forced to step down as chairman of the powerful Senate Foreign Relations Committee after being indicted. (CNN) —  3M has agreed to pay almost $10 million to settle apparent violations of Iranian sanctions, the US Office of Foreign Assets Control said last week. The agency said 3M had 54 apparent violations of OFAC sanctions on Iran. It said between 2016 and 2018, a 3M subsidiary in Switzerland allegedly knowingly sold reflective license plate sheeting through a German reseller to Bonyad Taavon Naja, an entity which is under Iranian law enforcement control. It’s the latest of a stream of high-publicity and high-dollar settlements   that 3M — which makes Post-It notes, Scotch Tape, N95 masks and other industrial products — has made this year. The lawsuit was the latest  in a new strategy by Hunter Biden to strike back against Republican allies of Donald Trump, who have traded and passed around his private data including purported emails and embarrassing images in their effort to discredit his father, President  Joe Biden . Starting Monday, people can order four tests per US household through  Covidtests.gov.  People without an internet connection can call 1-800-232-0233 (TTY 1-888-720-7489) to request tests. Covid-19 rapid tests can be taken at home and can be used regardless of whether someone has symptoms. The tests should be good through the end of the year. Some of the dates on the tests may show that they are expired, but the US Food and Drug Administration has  extended those dates. The US government previously shipped more than 755 million free Covid-19 tests to people who requested them. The program has been suspended since May. Covid hospitalizations have been on the rise in the United States since July, with weekly admissions now more than triple what they were two months ago.
