A plane crashed into the water at Hampton Beach in Hampton, New Hampshire Saturday afternoon, officials said. Hampton Fire confirmed the only occupant was the pilot, who was removed from the plane by first responders. He was not transported to the hospital, but there is no word on his condition. Video sent to 7NEWS shows the plane hitting the water and flipping forward. Then, the tail of the plane points straight up before the it settles into the waves. The scene is currently active as of 1 p.m. Saturday, and the plane has been removed from the water. CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — An escaped inmate from New Hampshire was fatally shot by a police officer at a store in Miami Beach after threatening two women with a knife, the New Hampshire Department of Corrections said. Darien Young, 29, was taken to a hospital on Thursday night, where he later died, the corrections department said in a news release. No one else was hurt. The shooting happened at a Victoria’s Secret store. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will investigate, Miami Beach police said. Young had been placed on escape status on July 21 after he left the grounds of a minimum security transitional housing unit in Manchester, New Hampshire, and failed to return, the state corrections department said. He was incarcerated on charges of receiving stolen property, burglary, drug and falsifying physical evidence. Four people were taken to area hospitals Friday after they fell from scaffolding at a site in Milford, officials said SKY7-HD was over the scene of what appeared to be a construction site Friday afternoon. Officials later told 7NEWS the incident happened near the back of the lot.  At least two of the people who were hurt had severe injuries. OSHA investigators had been called to the scene as of Friday afternoon. This year’s Revere Beach International Sand Sculpting Festival got underway Friday, kicking off a weekend where thousands of beachgoers and sculptors are expected to flock to the area.  The festival is scheduled to continue through Sunday at Revere Beach, with this year’s theme celebrating 90 years of Kong.  7NEWS on Friday spotted sculptures of a mermaid, a moon, a horse and a massive sculpture of King Kong. This year’s centerpiece sculpture, indeed, depicts an epic battle involving the giant gorilla. “This is amazing,” said event organizer Melineige Beauregard. “You’ve never seen something like this.” Beauregard said the centerpiece will be the biggest the festival has had in its 19-year history, standing 22-feet tall.  “King Kong and T-Rex — I think everyone is very impressed with it,” Beauregard said. Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Milton was running on generator power as of Friday morning while crews worked to address a power issue, a hospital spokesperson said.  The spokesperson in a statement shortly before 11 a.m. said the hospital was currently working with Eversource to address the issue.  “The hospital remains open, and we are closely monitoring the situation to ensure patient safety,” the spokesperson said. (AP) — The U.S. Department of Justice said Thursday it is investigating the patterns or practices of the police department in Memphis, Tennessee, nearly seven months after  the violent beating of Tyre Nichols  by five officers after a traffic stop. Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke of the Civil Rights Division made the announcement in Memphis. Federal authorities will use the investigative tool to look collectively at the Memphis Police Department’s use of force and stops, searches and arrests, and whether it engages in discriminatory policing. She said that in even in the majority Black city of Memphis, the police department may be disproportionately focusing its traffic enforcement on Black drivers. Clarke said the probe will look into the city and its police department. (CNN) —  Bryan Kohberger, the man accused of killing four University of Idaho students last fall, was not at the location where the crimes took place, his defense attorneys suggested Tuesday, though they have yet to provide evidence or details about his whereabouts. Reed, who was freed in a prisoner swap in April 2022, was transported to a hospital in Kyiv and was evacuated to Germany for medical care, the source said. Dennis Hernandez, a former football player at UConn, was shocked with a stun gun and arrested by police July 18 after he threatened to kill officers who had gone to his home in Bristol, Connecticut, then emerged from the house yelling “shoot me, shoot me,” according to police. On the way to the hospital, Hernandez, who went by DJ while playing quarterback and wide receiver for the Huskies in the mid-2000s, said he planned to kill anyone who had profited off his younger brother, police said in an arrest report.
