Kansas City police find body in man’s car after towing it

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Family members and a forensic expert are questioning why Kansas City police didn’t find a man’s body in the cargo area of his own SUV until after they towed it to a Missouri police station earlier this month. Adam “A.J.” Blackstock Jr.’s death is being investigated as a homicide, according to  The Kansas City Star. The newspaper reported that police defended how they initially handled the situation because they didn’t have a search warrant when they had the vehicle towed on Jan. 17 and Blackstock had yet to be officially reported missing. One forensic expert told the newspaper that police should have looked inside the vehicle before they moved it. “The idea of taking a vehicle into custody without searching inside a vehicle or opening the trunk is just negligent,” said Brent Turvey, a forensic scientist and criminologist with the Forensic Criminology Institute in Sitka, Alaska. Family members said they want answers about what happened to Blackstock, 24, who

Mayor Michelle Wu responded to the scene and spoke out against another senseless act of street violence. “Today, on a morning when so many families were just at church or enjoying a quiet Sunday morning, it’s incredibly painful to have this take place,” she said. Ty Pooler, who lives across the street, said he and his wife were enjoying a quiet Sunday morning when the peace was shattered by three loud gunshots. “Next thing you know, we look out the window and he was dead right there across the street,” he said, adding, “I just don’t understand why someone would take someone’s life like that.” Police say the shooti

The husband of a Duxbury woman who is facing criminal charges in connection with the deaths of her three children is speaking out amid an outpouring of support from the community. In a statement on a GoFundMe page , Patrick Clancy wrote: “Thank you all for your love and support. The warmth I’ve received from the community is palpable and your generosity gives me hope that I can focus on some sort of healing. I’ve seen all of your messages and contributions, including some from people I haven’t seen in over a decade and many I’ve never met. I see and appreciate everyone of you. A lot of people have said they can’t imagine and they’re right, there’s absolutely nothing that can prepare you. The shock and pain is excruciating and relentless. I’m constantly reminded of them and with the little sleep I get, I dream about them on repeat. Any parent knows, it’s impossible to understand how much you will love your kids

Trump opens 2024 run, says he’s ‘more committed’ than ever

This content collected from Boston News, Weather, Sports | WHDH 7News. COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) —  Former President Donald Trump  kicked off his 2024 White House bid with stops Saturday in New Hampshire and South Carolina, events in early-voting states marking the first campaign appearances since  announcing his latest run  more than two months ago. “Together we will complete the unfinished business of making America great again,” Trump said at an evening event in Columbia to introduce his South Carolina leadership team. Trump and his allies hope the events in states with enormous power in selecting the nominee will offer a show of force behind the former president after a sluggish start to his campaign that  left many questioning  his commitment to running again. “They said, ‘He’s not doing rallies, he’s not campaigning. Maybe he’s lost that step,’” Trump said at the New Hampshire GOP’s annual meeting in Salem, his first event. But, he told the audience of party leaders, “I’m more ang

Protesters march in Boston for 2nd day after release of Tyre Nichols beating video

Hundreds of protesters gathered in Boston on Saturday to protest police violence one day after the gruesome video of the deadly beating five Memphis police officers delivered to Tyre Nichols was released to the public. In a peaceful demonstration, those gathered marched from the Common through Boston and spoke out against police violence and recognized all of those who have died at the hands of police. The graphic footage emerged one day after the officers were  charged with murder  in Nichols’ death. The chilling images of another Black man dying at the hands of police renewed tough questions about how fatal encounters with law enforcement continue even after repeated calls for change. Protesters gathered for mostly peaceful demonstrations in other major cities, including Memphis, where several dozen demonstrators blocked the Interstate 55 bridge that carries traffic over the Mississippi River toward Arkansas. Semitrucks were backed up for a distance. In Washington, dozens of prote

Mild last week of January

This content collected from Boston News, Weather, Sports | WHDH 7News. 7Weather – It’s another January day that might have you doing a double take at the calendar. Some spots already hit 50° as of noon. Not only does it feel mild, but it’s also breezy. We’ll hold on to a breeze out of the SW through the afternoon. By tonight, expect less wind and comfortable temperatures. You might only need a light jacket for any dinner plans! Tomorrow we’ll wake up to more clouds. There’s a slightly warmer air mass upstairs that will help to make our temperatures warmer as well. A lot of us have a chance of climbing into the low 50s. The majority of the day is dry. A low pressure system will track to our west and north. It’ll bring some snow showers to far northern New England. For us, we’ll be on the warmer side of the system and we might just get a few sprinkles. We’ll watch for that between 3-8 pm. It won’t be much though. I just don’t want to catch you off guard. Next up a disturbance cou

AG says company fined for threatening negative reviewers

AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — A moving and storage company in Maine has agreed to pay a $125,000 fine and refrain from using a misleading email address to threaten customers who leave negative reviews, according to the state attorney general’s office. The attorney general’s office said Tuesday that it had entered into the agreement with Liberty Bell Moving and Storage, of Windham, after it found the company in violation of state and federal business practice laws. The attorney general’s office said the company used the misleading email address to indicate it was the account of the company’s attorney. The address was used to threaten customers who left negative reviews of services, the office said. The office said under the terms of the settlement Liberty Bell’s consumer contracts will also no longer require consumers to absolve the company of all claims before service. That practice violates Maine law. Representatives for Liberty Bell Moving and Storage did not immediately return a call se

This content collected from Boston News, Weather, Sports | WHDH 7News. (CNN) — Video of a traffic stop that led to the deadly beating of a 29-year-old Black man shows “acts that defy humanity,” the Memphis police chief told CNN on Friday, hours before the expected public release of the footage. “You’re going to see a disregard for life, duty of care that we’re all sworn to and a level of physical interaction that is above and beyond what is required in law enforcement,” Chief Cerelyn “CJ” Davis told Don Lemon of the video in the Tyre Nichols case, noting it will be released on YouTube in four parts. Five Memphis officers were charged Thursday in  Nichols’ death  following a reckless driving stop that Davis said her department has not been able to substantiate. With the release of the footage imminent, officials are urging any demonstrations Friday to be civil. NH couple arrested for housing 5 children in disturbing conditions, including floors covered with feces

A Manchester couple is facing multiple counts of child endangerment after officers discovered five children living in what police considered “deplorable” conditions. Steven Legault, 36, and Candace Krauklin, 35, were arrested on Thursday, Jan. 26, nearly three weeks after police first discovered and removed the children from their residence. Officers were initially called to the Lake Avenue address the morning of Jan. 7, after a Department of Public Works employee reported seeing a young boy at the home, yelling from a window that he “could not get out.” Police who arrived at the scene soon heard the boy yelling and spotted him in a sunroom “with bars on the window,” according to a press release from the Manchester Police Department. Knocking on the door, officers noted that they could “immediately smell a strong odor coming from inside.” The door was then answered by a man later identified as Steven Legault, who proceeded to step outside and was purportedly hesitant to let the of
